This is my best find in seventy years. I am enjoying the music daily. Thank you for your effects. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. Grew up on polka music since my dad played the accordian. He appeared a couple of times on Polka Varieties with band leader Eddie Hadam (or something like that). I can't track the bandleader through the web so if anyone knows anything about him, please let me know. Also, I'm looking for a waltz "Over Three Hills"...........do you know the artist or do you have the song on your site? Again, thanks for the stellar job.

Your listing of Slovenian/Cleveland-style polka musicians does not include a great one from Richmond, Va., Tom Fudala. He's a full-time professional entertainer, accordionist, and vocalist. Don't know his email address off-hand, but if you'll search his name in Google, I'm sure you'll find him.

Hi John, What a tremendous site this is. I also loved the music of Frankie Yankovic and the Cleveland style of polkas and waltzes. I now live in Tennessee and can't hear this kind of music on the radio. Ken

It is my 85 year old father's favorite & I am putting together a CD of our family's life & want to use Bob's music in the background. HELP! We love Bob Timko! Hi John! Thank you for this wonderful site. Saw Fred Ziwich last night at the German Club. It was "Vienna Night" with plenty of J. Strauss. Fred was wonderful as usual. I will be attending the "Illinois Polkafest" this coming weekend, a great weekend event. Tony, Warren, Ohio.

WOW!!! This is like the "Wikipedia" of Slovenian-Style Polka Music. What an awesome and accurate accounting of Cleveland-style polkas and waltzes from all of the stars that have been making the music for so many years. While I have taken a look at your site in the past, I never really had the time to delve into the depths of everything that is here, until now. I'll make a point of letting everyone know that if they want to truly find out about the history of American Slovenian polka music, they will have to head over to Europe and a web site from the Netherlands to find what they are looking for. Who would ever have thought? Who knew! I hope you'll continue to expand this already awesome resource. Keep up the great work!

Fantastic website. As a friend to Walter Ostanek, Joe Fedorchak, Roman, Miskulin, Trebar, Yankovic, Habat and many of the other great musicians noted on the site, this website is a tribute to all. It will truly keep Slovenian and Cleveland style music alive for many years to come and especially for younger players and fans who missed the privelege of seeing and hearing some of the great players, vocalists and sideman of years gone by. All the best!! Frank Svet, Dayton, Ohio

Great site, John! I just stumbled upon it and immediately added it to my favorites. Tops Cardone (photo gallery) was my accordian teacher when I lived in Euclid, Ohio. I moved to Tennessee in 1959 at age 16. Very few button box players here, but that's ok. I have my own and the folks around here love to hear me play it.

I love Polka music! I grew up listening to it. My mother said, as a baby that is all that would calm me when I was crying. I still love it today. My mother and father played Polka records all the time when I was a small lad. I would dance to the music. It would just make me plum happy. I was wondering if you could send me a complimentary paper? I am very interested in this. Thanks so much.

Hello and greetings from California! I just found this great site when I was doing a search on Ron Pivovar. I found him on the website for next month's National Accordion Association convention in Dallas, where I've just been invited to do a book- and-music presentation for my new music memoir "Accordion Dreams: A Journey into Cajun and Creole Music." I am half Slovenian, on my mother's side. She's from Cleveland; I spent my early years there too. But I was never exposed to the music of her culture. It took falling in love with Cajun music to bring the accordion into my life. Go figure! Cheers, Blair Kilpatrick. www.blairkilpatrick.com

Hi, Am a snowbird in Florida. Saw your website by chance. Am anxious to get home to listen to some of your polkas. I am an American Slovenian and live in Ohio, close to Cleveland. I grew up with Polkas. My dad played the drums and buttonbox accordian with the Frankie Spetich Orchestra of Barberton Ohio for 41 years. Frankie's orchestra toured Slovenia many times as well as many states in the US. I do remember Frankie saying that he was going to the Netherlands. Do you have any albums of the Frankie Spetich Orchestra? Will definitely check back with your website.

Just checking in and reverying your website. Glad to hear another Ray Galla and the Polka Gems song on the play list. I let Ray know that you added another song of his to the play list. You can't believe how much just knowing that raises that a man's spirit. When you think about all the good times alot of the old timers gave of their time and talents to give some good times it sure makes a man feel good he is appreciated. When you think about how a drummer eventually loses his hearing, how raw a banjo or guitar player's finger tips are, or like Ray how his back pays the toll for slinging a 45 pound accordian upon his shoulders for 3-4 hours at a gig you wonder how these keep smiling as they are playing for the audience. But like Ray tells me "it makes it all disppear when he sees people out there dancing and having fun!". Go polking and make sure you personally thank the band.....

Greetings, I once recorded an all original polka CD (The Greenspring Band) and had a band. WTKM, Hartford, WI, still plays and sells it. Currently I am a pastor in SW WI, and play my Polka & Praise Service in the area - seasonally. If you want my original CD - and if anyone does Polka & Praise and wants good texts to support Slovenian melodies (all parts for liturgical settings) - let me know. I also composed and performed a station ID years ago for WIBU, 1240 AM, Poynette, WI, when they had polkas 24 x 7. Tom Brokaw covered it in one of his NBC stories of the week. Nice website! Thank you. Rev. David R. Froemming (pronounced fremming - Milwaukee ancestry) Lancaster, WI

John, Nice website. I see that one week you played a song from my friend's album. Ray Galla from the Polka Gems is still alive and about. He will be 72 years old in March. People can still listen to him at a number of festivals in Ohio and his band still plays monthly at the Germania Club in Columbus. Ray lives in Zanesville and at least twice a week and more he still bangs out the good old tunes at rest homes he visits. Ray's Polka Gems played our our wedding 30 years ago and we still have the band for large family functions and festivals. If you would like to talk to him I can get you his phone number just so you can say I spoke to him once.....I'm can wait to tell him that somebody has been playing his song that lived (lives) in the Netherlands...
